COMPANY INFO
Casa Vinicola Pietro Nera is a historic wine producer in Valtellina, present in the area for 4 generations. The wines are produced on steep slope terraces and come from the Nebbiolo vine, locally called “Chiavennasca”, as it is an indigenous variety. The cultivation of the vineyards is very heavy, entirely manual as with the slopes present it is not possible to use any mechanical vehicles. Our valley, located in a strategic position in the north-east of Lombardy, close to Lake Como and the border with Italian Switzerland, enjoys a particular climate, fresh, ventilated and mild at the same time, which gives the wines produced characteristics of extreme finesse and elegance. The company produces wines of all the denominations present in the valley: IGT Alpi Retiche (two interesting Nebbiolos vinified in white, with Chardonnay, and a Nebbiolo vinified in rosé), DOC Rosso di Valtellina, Valtellina Superiore Docg and Valtellina Superiore Docg Riserva, Sforzato of Valtellina Docg.
PRODUCTS
SFORZATO DI VALTELLINA DOCG
Sforzato di Valtellina Docg is the most important wine produced in our region. It is obtained from Nebbiolo grapes, locally called “Chiavennasca”, dried for at least 2 months in special rooms, after manual harvesting in the vineyard which generally takes place around mid-October. It is a wine of great structure and character, austere but at the same time fine and elegant, thanks to the particular climate enjoyed by our valley. It is a dry raisin wine, with a variable alcohol content, based on the harvest, between 15% vol. and 16% vol. Wine for meditation/after a meal or in any case paired with structured red meats and very old cheeses.
VALTELLINA SUPERIORE DOCG SASSELLA RISERVA
Valtellina Superiore Docg Sassella Riserva is one of the 5 wines we produce with the wording “Riserva” and comes from the specific production sub-area that gives it its name. This is a particular selection of pure Nebbiolo “Chiavennasca” grapes, generally harvested in “cru” vineyards in the specific area only in the best vintages. Following the rules of production, this wine, like the other Riserva wines must age for a minimum of 36 months, of which 24 in Slavonian oak barrels (capacity of 5000 liters and above) and at least 12 in the bottle. Production is limited and generally stands at 5/6,000 bottles per year.
VALTELLINA SUPERIORE DOCG INFERNO RISERVA
Valtellina Superiore Docg Inferno Riserva is one of the 5 wines we produce with the wording “Riserva” and comes from the specific production sub-area that gives it its name.
VALTELLINA SUPERIORE DOCG INFERNO "EFESTO"
Valtellina Superiore Docg Inferno “Efèsto” is one of the “classics” of our production. The pure Nebbiolo “Chiavennasca” grapes are harvested in the sub-area of the same name called “Inferno”, whose name derives from the extreme slopes of the vineyard (over 70%, all terraced) and the high temperatures created in the vineyard especially during the winter period. Like all the classics we produce (Sassella, Grumello and Valgella are also present in the catalogue), following the rules of the production specification it requires at least 24 months of refinement, of which 12 in large Slavonian oak barrels and 12 in the bottle.
IGT ALPI RETICHE "LA NOVELLA"
The IGT Alpi Retiche “La Novella” is a particular but very interesting wine. Unusual because it’s a product obtained through the white vinification of Nebbiolo “Chiavennasca”, present for at least 80% in the blend, which is completed with Chardonnay and a small percentage of Incrocio Manzoni. It is a wine that we have been producing for many years and which is giving us good satisfaction on various foreign markets, thanks to the particularity of white vinification from red grapes. Fragrant, with strong hints of tropical fruit, but also green apple. It should be drunk fresh, from year to year, but being produced with Nebbiolo grapes it has a minimal longevity.
