LAP: Pioneering Eco-Sustainable Practices in the Plastic Industry

For over fifty years, L.A.P. Lavorazione Articoli Plastici srl has been at the forefront of producing realistic food replicas such as fruits, vegetables, fish, cheeses, breads, and hams. These replicas serve various purposes, from enhancing sales through advertising to decorating supermarket displays and promoting important issues like nutritional education and dental hygiene.

However, L.A.P.’s commitment extends beyond its product offerings. The company places a high priority on environmental sustainability, recognizing the importance of preserving our natural environment. In line with this commitment, L.A.P. has implemented several key principles and initiatives aimed at reducing its environmental footprint.

Core Environmental Principles

L.A.P. is dedicated to safeguarding the environment by adopting eco-sustainable and environmentally compatible production processes and products. The company adheres to the following principles:

  • Utilizing processes and technologies that prevent and reduce environmental impact.
  • Implementing business activities in an ecologically responsible manner.
  • Continuously training and raising awareness among all employees on environmental issues.
  • Promoting and ensuring a strong environmental consciousness and high level of knowledge among all personnel.

Challenges and Initiatives

To reduce the environmental impact of its products, L.A.P. is actively promoting a circular economy. This involves designing products to be recyclable at the end of their life cycle, thereby minimizing environmental impact. The company is also working towards reducing packaging and opting for sustainable, easily recyclable packaging solutions. Each package is clearly labeled to facilitate collection, reuse, recovery, and recycling.

Waste Reduction

A significant goal for L.A.P. is to minimize waste generation associated with its productions. The company encourages recycling and only uses 100% recyclable plastics. All plastic production scraps are recycled back into the production process, demonstrating a commitment to waste reduction.

Energy Efficiency and CO2 Emissions Reduction

L.A.P. aims to maximize the efficiency of its plants to reduce energy consumption. This policy, initiated around 15 years ago, includes the construction of a photovoltaic system on the factory roofs in 2008, reducing CO2 emissions by 265 tons to date. Over the last decade, through the renewal and optimization of production processes, L.A.P. has reduced its energy consumption and related CO2 emissions by 52%.

At the end of 2022, L.A.P. upgraded its original photovoltaic system to a more efficient and ten times larger one (450 Kwp). This upgrade aims to further reduce the company’s energy impact and CO2 emissions by about 90% in 2023, preventing approximately 170 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

Certifications and Recognitions

L.A.P.’s dedication to quality and sustainability is recognized through various certifications and ratings:

  • ISO 9001 certification since 2002.
  • Silver sustainability rating from Ecovadis in 2022.
  • Gold sustainability rating from Ecovadis in 2023.

Mission and Future Vision

L.A.P. remains committed to local production using injection molding, blow molding, and rotational molding techniques. The company offers customized productions, including bespoke packaging and client-branded labels, always striving to meet customer needs.

By continuously innovating and prioritizing sustainability, L.A.P. not only aims to provide high-quality, realistic food replicas but also to lead by example in environmental stewardship within the plastic industry.
